According to the law 962 of 2005, Colombia authorized\u00a0<\/span>a mutually\u00a0<\/span>approved\u00a0<\/span>divorce<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>a notary when the couple agrees\u00a0<\/span>on the terms of the divorce<\/span>. This option was created as a tool to avoid the procedure in court, which always takes time and\u00a0<\/span>is more expensive.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can you get divorced\u00a0in\u00a02\u00a0hours?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In real life, it<\/span>\u00a0can not. A normal divorce when the couples agree on the terms a minimum\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0two\u00a0<\/span>days<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0<\/span>required\u00a0<\/span>using<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>notary. This\u00a0<\/span>is when<\/span>\u00a0the couple doesn\u2019t have kids or assets, plus another week to register the public document\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0<\/span>the notaries where the marriage and birth certificates are\u00a0<\/span>recorded.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In case there are children, the mutual agreement divorce can take\u00a0<\/span>three<\/span>\u00a0weeks because the social worker has to provide\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>a concept of the section of child<\/span>\u00a0rights and agreement<\/span>\u201d<\/span>, plus when the couple has assets, the liquidation of the community\u00a0<\/span>property\u00a0<\/span>must be done at the notary and\u00a0<\/span>then\u00a0<\/span>register<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0in the office of public\u00a0<\/span>records<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The express divorce process can be used by persons living outside of\u00a0<\/span>Colombia<\/span>, but the preparation of the documents for the divorce must be made by an experienced lawyer who knows what and how to\u00a0 request and write\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>legal papers<\/span>\u00a0in order to get them approved by the foreign authority and then by Colombian notary<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
