In the last years I have received several petitions from US clients who anytime in the past they got divorced in Colombia and now they want to bring their new partners to the US but UCSIS has stopped the process until US petitioner proves the divorce in Colombia and the US client don’t have any copy or idea where the records are or where the Colombian divorce judgment was issued or by whom.
As Colombian attorney, I know US clients don’t receive copies of their Colombian divorce decree or judgment when the legal case was done in trial or even in Colombia notary. Before 2021, all was in paper and most Colombian ex wives never sent copy to their ex-US husband, may sound rude, but it was kind of revenge.
If you are in this legal situation, please don’t worry, contact me free of charge I will verify what we can do and provide a budget. Some cases can be fixed asap other depending on the time, can take longer but everything can be fixed, correct, or request new documents of divorce judgment copies for UCSIS.
This situation of UCSIS requiring certifies copies of Colombian divorce judgment or decree is familiar with me and I know what to do and how to search for those documents following the specification of UCSIS or the American embassy in Bogota.
I understand that each case is different, and as a US citizen may have questions about the process and its requirements and what to do.
Please feel free to contact me for further information.
